LIAM FENTON – MEMORIAL DAY

LIAM FENTON – MEMORIAL  DAYThere will be a 5K Fun Run/Walk on Sunday May 31 at 1pm starting from the Cú Chulainn Bar. Registration will take place on Saturday May 30 from 2pm – 4pm in the Patrickswell Club House or on the day from 12noon at the Cú Chulainn.  BBQ, Music and Entertainment in the bar following the run, all proceeds will be donated to the Irish Heart Foundation.

CONDOLENCES

CONDOLENCES: The community was saddened this week by the passing of Maureen Hayes in her 93rd year. Maureen served behind the counter of the shop in Tervoe for many years and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Sincere sympathies also to the families of Eileen O’Shaughnessy, Bolane, Kildimo and Nina Collery, South Circular Road Limerick.

45 DRIVE

45 DRIVE: The weekly 45 card drive in aid of the Ballybrown Community Resource Centre continues every Thursday night at 8.45pm and your support would be greatly appreciated. Last weeks winners were as follows : we had two teams on 9 games and they decided to divide the prize money of €160.00, Anthony McGann with Leonard Coughlan and Donie Lane with Pat Mulqueen. The table prize went to Junior Hogan and Jimmy McNamara.

Raffle prizes as follows : 1/ €30, Pauline O’Connell, 2/ €20, Maura Byrnes, 3/ €20, Pat Condon, 4/ €10, Evelyn O’Brien 5/ €10, Maura Byrnes and 6/ €10, Pauline O’Connell.
The league, twelve best scores out of fifteen, has now concluded and after a very close battle Billy Sheerin takes first prize of €150.00 with 84 games. We had joint second prize winners in Pat Mulqueen and Donie Lane with 81 games and they get €65.00 each. The league was a great success and went right down to the wire.
Thursday May 21 is our final drive after which we take a break for the summer months and will be back again god willing in mid September. We would like to thank all our supporters who turned up over the past year. We would like to thank Maura Byrnes and Helen Kennedy for looking after the catering each Thursday night. And a big thank you goes to our organisers Joe Purcell, Peter O’Sullivan and Willie Ryan for another great season and they are off now for a well earned break. See you all on May 21 for the final drive of the season. Thank you.

BALLYBROWN/CLARINA COMMUNITY GAMES

ATHLETICS TRACK & FIELD SPORTS EVENING: We had a brilliant night last Tuesday May12 for our sports evening. The sun shone on us, we had over 120 children turn up on the night. The smiles on their faces running down the field was just priceless. For some it was their first time taking part in an organised event and many received their first medals. We would like to thank all those that turned up on the night, also Breska Rovers Soccer Club for the use of the field. A full list of the results are on display in the Resource Centre.

ROUNDERS – BOYS & GIRLS U13: Training is taking place on Mondays after school and Saturday at 3pm in Breska Rovers Soccer Field.

SKITTLES – U12, U14 & U16’S: Training is up and running for our skittles teams. First round games are coming within the next 2 weeks.  If you are interested please check with Michael O’Brien.

GAELIC FOOTBALL: Our mixed U10 football team played their first round of games on Wednesday and qualified to round 2 which will be held this coming week. We wish them the best of luck

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: Twenty three pupils from Second Class in Ballybrown National School celebrated their First Holy Communion on Saturday May 16. The mass was concelebrated by Fr Michael Cussen and Mons. Michael Lane. A word of thanks to their teacher Ms. Beena Day, the school staff and parents who helped with the preparations for the big day, the choir and altar servers and of course not forgetting the children themselves who were a credit to their families and school. Refreshments were served in the Community Resource Centre afterwards and enjoyed by everyone.

Dog Night

GLASNEVIN TOUR

GLASNEVIN TOUR: The Ballybrown Pioneer Association are organising a trip by bus to Glasnevin Cemetary during the month of May, possibly on Saturday May 30 and anyone wishing to travel on this tour are asked to please contact Pat Gallagher or Willie Ryan urgently as spaces are limited and it will be on a first come first served basis. The cost will be around €30 which includes entrance to the museum in Glasnevin. Thank you.

CALCUTTA CALLING

CALCUTTA CALLING: The Calcutta Calling group recently presented a cheque to Maureen Forrest and Sister Jenny Browne of the Hope Foundation to purchase a Laparoscope, for keyhole surgery procedures, in the Hope Foundation Hospital in Calcutta, India. The Calcutta Calling group led by Fr. Pat Hogan would like to thank all the people who supported this very worthy fundraiser and this machine will greatly enhance the care offered by the Hope Hospital. The presentation took place at the Woodlands Hotel, Adare and also present were Helen and David Cussen, Charlie Coughlan, Jim O’Farrell, Brian Hartigan, Paddy and Nora Ryan, Ann Carroll, Kevin Cahalane, Teresa Cronin, Seosamh O’Chuinnachain, Mary Fitzgerald and Willie Ryan.
