SAILOR’S HAGGARD MONUMENT

OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE SAILOR’S HAGGARD MONUMENT

INVITATION

You are cordially invited to attend the opening and blessing of The Sailor’s Haggard monument at

Newtown, Clarina, Co. Limerick,

Sunday, September 27th at 3.00 pm

This monument is dedicated to the memory of all those who passed through Newtown on their way to fish the tidal waters of the River Shannon. It is the work of a group of local volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the past few months to create this commemorative site. Many of the volunteers come from the fishing community and in erecting this monument wished to capture this aspect of local history and to preserve the memory of the salmon fishing tradition.

The blessing will be performed by Monsignor Michael Lane, and there will be short contributions on the history of the fishermen, a couple of songs and refreshments to finish. Do come along!

For further details, contact Maura Byrnes at 087 2565443
