On the 19/20th of May 6 Cub Scouts (9 – 11 years old) representing Clarina, took part in the Limerick Scout County Cub Challenge.
This competition involved 4 parts.
Campcraft – involved the team erecting tents and building 2 camp gadgets with wood and rope, eg. Gate & Bin Racks.
Cooking – involved cooking a 2 course test meal and serving to a number of different testers.
Bases – involved senarios including First Aid, Fire Lighting, Map & Compass, Teamwork, Pioneering and Shelter Building.
Final Inspections – involved checking that all Leave no Trace principles were adhered too.
These were all done by the youth members themselves and while they were under adult supervision, there was no adult instructions.
The team placed 3rd out of 11 teams which was a fantastic achievement considering this was there first time entering such a competition.
The six cubs involved were Alfie Hannan, Jack Doyle, Clodagh Walsh, Matt Holton, Charlie Hannan and Daniel McNamara.
