GOOD NEWS ALL THE WAY FOR BALLYBROWN NS.CAMOGIE : The fortunes of Ballybrown National School camogie team are certainly on the up and up! The school recently won the final of the INTO Mini Sevens, a feat that they had not achieved since 2008. “Our girls had a battle on their hands as we had to play the champions of the other three divisions in the county” said Joe Lyons, Principal, “but it all came right in the end.” The team is coached by teachers Sheila Hayes and Sarah Keyes. Next up is the semi final of the Limerick City Cumann na mBunscol league when Ballybrown NS play Monaleen NS.

The team will also be sporting new playing gear as BB’s Muffins from Crescent Shopping Centre has kindly sponsored a set of jerseys for the camogie team. “It is a very generous gesture and I am grateful to Cian Murphy and Sinead Lynch of BB’s for arranging this” said Mr Lyons.

INVASIVE SPECIES FIELDTRIP

INVASIVE SPECIES FIELDTRIP: West Limerick Resources will be running a half day fieldtrip to see first-hand the impact of invasive species in West Limerick on Tuesday May 31. This will include training on identification but will look in more depth at the practical steps involved in appropriately maintaining areas affected by invasive species including site inspection, risk assessment, monitoring and correct removal techniques where appropriate. Open to members of local tidy towns groups, CE schemes or others involved in environmental enhancement work including trails management. CHILD PROTECTION TRAINING

CHILD PROTECTION TRAINING: West Limerick Resources is offering two workshops in relation to Child Protection for staff and volunteers of community run organisations this May. Workshop 1 will provide an introduction to Child Protection and takes place on Saturday May 14. Workshop 2 covers developing your organisations Child Protection Policy and takes place on Saturday May 28. Both workshops will run from 10am-4.30pm in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West. EXAM MASS SATURDAY MAY 14

EXAM MASS SATURDAY MAY 14 : All 3^rd Level, Leaving & Junior Certificate students and any other students who will be sitting exams over the coming weeks are invited to the 6.30pm mass on Saturday May 14 in Patrickswell Church and the 8.00pm Mass in Ballybrown church. There will be special prayers for all preparing for exams, a book will be available in both Churches and you are asked to write in the names of those you would like to remember. This book will be placed on the Altar for the duration of the exams.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION : The First Holy Communion Ceremony for pupils attending Patrickswell and Ballybrown National Schools will take place on Saturday May 14 at 11.00am. This is not just a special family day but a celebration day for the parish and all are welcome.

BALLYBROWN SCHOOL PARENTS ASSOCIATION CAKE SALE

BALLYBROWN SCHOOL PARENTS ASSOCIATION CAKE SALE SUNDAY MAY 15 : The Parents Association will host a Cake Sale in the Resource Centre on Sunday May 15 after 10am mass to support the new Literacy for Life Program in Ballybrown School. This program is part of a national strategy to improve literacy standards among children. As part of the cake sale we are also running a “Bake Off” competition for 3^rd to 6^thclass for all budding bakers. Finally there will be a raffle to close out what is sure to be an enjoyable morning. Light refreshments will be served. Your support would be greatly appreciated so get those baking bowls out!

Ballybrown NS Parents Association

‘Ballybrown NS Parents Association are holding a
Cake Sale and Raffle Sunday 15th Of May after
10am mass in the Community Centre.

Many of the cakes will be made by budding bakers
from 3rd to 6th class as part of “bake off” competition.
All proceeds will be used to support the new Literacy
for Life Program in Ballybrown School. Your support
would be greatly appreciated.

INTERESTED IN PRIMARY TEACHING

INTERESTED IN PRIMARY TEACHING: Limerick Youth Service (LYS) is delighted to announce details of a new course for adult learners who are interested in becoming Primary School teacher.

Delivered in partnership with Mary Immaculate College (MIC) and the Limerick & Clare Education Board (lcetb), the Teacher Education Access Course for Mature Learners is a programme is designed for mature learners who wish to gain entry to the B.Ed. (Primary Education) at MIC. The course is aimed at anyone over the age of 22 by January 1 on the year of application and is interested in progressing to full-time third level study.
The programme is designed to offer participants an opportunity to obtain the prerequisite entry requirements to the B.Ed programme. Therefore, two subjects at honours Leaving Certificate level will be offered, Gaeilge and English.
This part-time course will run from September to May and will take place on Friday evenings, from 6.00pm to 9.00pm, and Saturdays from 9.30am to 5.30pm, with a provisional starting date of Friday, September 9 2016.

RIVER MAIGUE ROWING CLUB

RIVER MAIGUE ROWING CLUB : The River Maigue Rowing Club is a recently formed club based at the Ferrybridge, Clarina, Co. Limerick. Our aim is to provide a club where members can row in Gandelows on the River Maigue. There have been generations of locals involved in this activity and we particularly encourage the joining of younger members who will also learn the skills of rowing a Gandelow and carry on the tradition to the next generations

For anyone interested in going out on the river in a Gandelow to try out a spot of rowing, the following 2 sessions are coming up: Saturday May 14 from 12pm to 2.30pm and Fri May 20 from 5pm to 7.30pm. Meet at the rear of De Bucket car park on the riverbank. Open to those aged 14+. For any enquiries please find us on Facebook (search River Maigue Rowing Club) & private message. We will also be accepting new members for the upcoming season.
